Going around Cottages: Roe Lake

A wonderful hike around the quaint Roe Lake. Climb to Malga Alta

• Type of excursion: easy stroll, ideal for those who want to spend a few hours in the open air. No particular physical preparation is required. The Roe Lake loop can be covered with a stroller, except for the climb to Malga.
• Duration: 2,5 h – half day
• Distance: 4,9 km.
• Starting level: 1,300 m. a.s.l. (Parking Fazzon)
• Arrival level: 1,550 m. a.s.l. (Malga Alta – Alta Cottage)
• Elevation gain: 310 m.

Route:

Roe Lake is a stunning body of water. The place is suitable for families and for those who want to easily get to a natural spot. The hike around the lake is even. From the hotel, it takes only 15 minutes by car to get there, going down to the village of Pellizzano and continuing on the right by following signs for “Fazzon – Lago dei Caprioli”. It is exciting to climb up to Malga Alta where we will find a typical mountain farm with cows, pigs, hens, goats, a donkey and other little animals. Obviously, there is a farmer too. If you still feel like walking, you can continue to Stablo Lake, just above the cottage, where lucky ones can make a feast of wild blueberries! We will come back along the outward route to the start point or we will follow the dirt road.

Curiosity:

In mountains, the farmer is the shepherd. At Malga Alta, the shepherd starts his day by preparing fresh cheese. In this cottage, the cheese is still prepared on a log fire. It is possible to taste their products, including salami, cheese, cakes, juices … all homemade!
