Discover the magic of the Park taking part in the excursions with the snowshoes

In the white, in the silence, only the speech of the trees, this is the invitation of the Stelvio National Park to the visitors that want to seize the occasions offered in the winter activities program.

Daily and evening trips with snowshoes, with the departure from the Pejo's visitors centre, tours in group with the accompany of the Alpine guides that have taken the diploma in "park guide": professional men who know, love, live the mountain with passion and guide you in safety long the itineraries that develop in the Val di Pejo.

The courses don't have technical difficulties and are established considering the characteristics of the snowfall and the meteorological conditions.

For the simple courses, suited for every age, there are not requested particular preparations or specific trainings. For other courses, as for summer trekking, is indispensable a minimum of training. It's necessary, in both cases, to pay attention where you walk…
To wear the snowshoes are ideal the walking shoes or the trekking shoes ,a suitable snow clothes and the sticks that help you to walk.

The evolution

In the past, in particular the hunters and the farmers advanced in the snowed landscape, with the snowshoes on foot, which prevented to sink in the deep snow. The snowshoes called "ciaspole" were built by a wooden circle and leather strip tied. A strap not so tight tied the shoes to this piece of equipment.

In the last years the trips on the snow have become again fashionable. The snowshoes have become particularly suited for the not too steep slopes. More over you could cover the snowfield also in the depth of winter. The raw materials are improved too: the old wooden and leather circles became snowshoes , produced with very light materials but particularly adapted for the man's movements. Nowadays thanks to anti-tear materials, titanium alloys and other novelties, the progresses have been remarkable.

How to wear the snowshoes

First of all the left snowshoe differentiates from the right one for the fastening's buckle that have to be outside. The boots have to be inserted so that the tip of the foot is on the metal point, and then it has to be fixed tightening the front belt. The hell of the boots has to be taken at the centre of the snowshoe's place and then fixed with the rear belt.
