Fishing and lakes
With a look to the science let we guide to the fancy and to the poetry in this holiday at the discover of the multitude of torrents and lakes of Val di Sole (about hundred), the majority of them is concentrated in the Ortles – Cevedale group between Val di Rabbi and Val di Pejo.
They are optimal habitats for the iridal, marbled and fario trout, and of the precious chars. The reserve for the fishing activity extends on a big area that includes Val di Sole and its lateral valleys, Val di Pejo and Val di Rabbi.
Where you could fish:
The Noce torrent: is the principal watercourse of Val di Sole, a rushing torrent that flows at 3000 m of altitude. It differs in tract A, from Malè to Mostizzolo, tract B, from Fucine to Malè, tract C, from Pejo Terme to Fucine. Each of the three tracts has good characteristics: natural bed, deep holes, strong running, and big blocks. Here we find the marbled trout, fario trout and hybrids of the two species.
The Pian Palù lake in Val di Pejo is a big artificial basin on 1800 m of altitude, reachable in about 15 minutes on foot from Pejo Fonti, Fontanino resort. Populated by fario trout, iridal trout, American and from-fountain char. Every of them are above-average species.
The Caprioli lake, near Pellizzano is an artificial basin, not so deep and with transparent waters on 1200 m of altitude. It is reachable by car from Pellizzano. Here we find the iridal trout.
The Mezzana Lakes are two lakes of glacial origin that are at 2000 m of altitude. They are reachable from Marilleva 1400 in about an hour or more on foot. Fario trouts populate them.
Soprassasso's lake in Val di Rabbi, lake of a glacial origin, at 2240 m of altitude, it is populated by alpine chars. It is reachable in about three hours form the picnic area of Valorz.
The Meledrio torrent near Dimaro usually has transparent waters, with a middle-plentiful flow. Fario trouts populate it. Barco Lake near Vermiglio, has a glacial origin at 1900 of altitude. It's reachable in 2 hours and thirty minutes on foot from Volpaia-Vermiglio. Here we find autochthonous alpine chars.
The Vermigliana torrent is at 1000 m of altitude and it's reachable from various accesses. The zone of fishing zone begins from Ossana and ends 10 km upriver. Fario trouts populate it.
Rabbies torrent. It is a natural bed that it is constituted from limpid waters, it's an environment adapted for the marbled and fario trout.
You cannot lose, during the summer season, the guided tour to the new " Incubatory Centre of Cavizzana" run from the Val di Sole's fishers. The aim of the centre is to breed young marbled and fario trouts, and then to release them in the valley's waters. For information and bookings please apply to the Information Office of the Valley.
